Abba Arrubia is a farmhouse located in the plain of Castiadas, in a quiet valley at the foot of the Sette Fratelli Park and open towards the sea of south-eastern Sardinia. On the land, situated on the bank of a stream, there is a forest of Mediterranean scrub (oaks, carob trees, strawberry trees, myrtle, lavender and other indigenous essences), olive and fruit trees are cultivated. The sparsely man-made environment and protected landscape proved to be the ideal place to build, according to the principles of bio-architecture, a structure that would fit into the natural context without altering its balance, respecting environmental sustainability, allowing the healthy energy of the place to be perceived even inside the buildings.
The uncontaminated environment, the strategic position, the eco-sustainability, the presence of only adults, and the excellent state of the structure make Abba Arrubia perfect as a holiday home that can offer one or two couples, or a small group of friends, moments of relaxation and tranquillity in a truly exclusive place just a few minutes from the crystal-clear beaches of Costa Rei and Villasimius and the main services.
The structure and systems are built according to bio-architectural principles: wooden roofs and floors, ventilated and breathable roofs, ecological paints, anti-radon crawl spaces, load-bearing walls, natural terracotta floors, latex mattresses, and copper skirting board heating.
Energy needs, in keeping with environmental sustainability, are provided by photovoltaic and solar panels, and electric cars can be recharged. Water is drinkable and is extracted from a well dug in the granite. The bio-architectural techniques with which the structure is built allow a lower temperature in summer days than outside, and at night the fresh air of the countryside allows excellent rest.
The structure is in fact included in the 'Nature, Beauty and Tourism' circuit promoted by Legambiente.
Abba Arrubia's location is very interesting: just a 10/15-minute drive away are some of the area's most beautiful beaches, characterised by fine sand and crystal-clear sea (Feraxi, Costa Rei, Cala Sinzias, San Giovanni just to name a few); a few kilometres away are grocery shops, bars, restaurants, bakeries, fishmongers, butchers, dairies, and oil mills offering local products. Zero km is the norm here.
A little further away are the towns of Muravera (north) and Olia Speciosa (south) with all services (doctor's office, supermarkets, herbalist's shop, pharmacy, travel agencies, banks, post office and all kinds of shops). Within an hour's drive is the city of Cagliari, its port, airport and the historical and tourist attractions of an ancient city by the sea.
Numerous sports can be practised in the vicinity: horse riding, cycling, sailing, canoeing, scuba diving, water skiing, golf, trekking and parachuting, as well as small aircraft hire. A half-hour drive away is the tourist port of Villasimius, where it is possible to rent dinghies and boats in the Capo Carbonara Protected Marine Area.
From Abba Arrubia, you can choose between several beaches. The beach of Feraxi, north of Capo Ferrato, reachable by car in 10 minutes, is incredibly wild and almost deserted even in the peak season. This beach has dark sand and the sea water is therefore very warm. Moreover, the water remains shallow for a long stretch and is therefore ideal for swimming and walking in the water.
South of Cape Ferrato, about 15 minutes' drive away, there are small beaches and the large, white beach of Costa Rey, 10 km long, with its crystal-clear sea and emerald-green water
It is situated at the foot of the Sette Fratelli Regional Park, which can be explored along marked trails.
Equally suggestive are the panoramic paths on the cliffs of Capo Ferrato and Capo Carbonara and around the numerous coastal lagoons, habitat of numerous protected species of birds including pink flamingos. The entire south-east coast as far as Cagliari has unspoilt beaches and picturesque views. If you love archaeology, just over an hour from Abba Arrubia is one of Sardinia's most important sites, the Nuraghe Arrubiu, an enormous megalithic construction from the 10th to 8th centuries BC. Near Abba Arrubia (4/5 km) there are also some excellent typical restaurants, agritourisms and ichthyurisms as well as small supermarkets, pizzerias, bars and the best artisan bakery in the area. This historical-geographical area (Sarrabus) also has a fine production of red (cannonau, monica) and white (vermentino, nuragus) wines, well represented by the Cantina di Castiadas.
For festive or religious occasions, each town in the area organises festivals, traditional costume parades, music and song festivals at different times of the year.
Noteworthy are the Sagra delle Arance (Festival of Oranges), which has become one of the most important folk festivals in Sardinia (last Sunday in April, Muravera), Sant'Elisio the largest folkloristic and religious procession in Sardinia (Cagliari, first of May), the summer parade of ancient traditional masks (August, Muravera), without forgetting the various bread, goat, fish, wine and ravioli festivals, cycling events such as 'Felici in bici', those dedicated to mushrooms (Foreste in festa), motorbike and vintage car rallies.
Within Abba Arrubia, Casa Oleandro is the only house intended for hospitality. It is separate from the rest of the structure, independent and can accommodate up to four people in two bedrooms. One or two couples or a small group of friends.

Casa Oleandro, all on the ground floor, has a shady, furnished veranda, a large living room with dining area and lounge with sofas and armchairs, a well-equipped kitchen, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a walk-in wardrobe and a storage room. There is an outdoor shower with hot water. In a setting reserved for adults, surrounded by greenery, built using green building systems, equipped with all comforts; cool in summer, it guarantees total relaxation.
