Maloja - the traditional pass village at the transition to Bergell

On the border with Italian-speaking Switzerland, the uncomplicated atmosphere, the spirit of famous painters and the nature and culture of a mountain pass landscape are much appreciated. Giovanni Segantini chose Maloja as his last home and subject for many nature paintings. The small pass village on the border with the unspoilt Bergell is popular with hikers, art lovers and families. In winter, Maloja is the starting point of the Engadin Ski Marathon, a mecca for cross-country skiers, and offers paradisiacal winter sports conditions on the cross-country ski trails, pony lift and snowtubing facilities.

Kitesurfing, sailing, windsurfing, stand-up paddling: the possibilities are almost endless. The expanse of the inspiring high valley can be experienced in a particularly impressive way on the two 18-hole golf courses in Samedan and Zuoz. And in addition to the wide range of sporting activities on offer, there are also first-class cultural attractions such as a visit to the museum or the numerous art galleries in the various villages.

In winter, 350 kilometres of the finest pistes in the Corviglia, Corvatsch and Diavolezza ski areas and the family-friendly Zuoz invite you to enjoy true skiing and snowboarding fun. Cross-country skiers will find over 220 kilometres of groomed trails in the Upper Engadine and the side valleys. The winter hiking trails and cross-country ski trails on the frozen Upper Engadin lakes shine with light, sunshine and vastness in the midst of an inspiring mountain world. Those who want to enjoy the tranquillity and beauty of the snow-covered forests can hike along the 150 km of winter hiking trails in the side valleys of Val Roseg, Val Fex or Val Bever, while those who prefer an overview can enjoy breathtaking views on the panoramic hiking trails high above the lakes on Muottas Muragl.

Families can enjoy the Engadin sunshine on a carriage ride into Val Roseg or Val Fex, or toboggan down into the valley on the 4.2 km long, winding Muottas Muragl toboggan run.
